Chains and sprockets
A chain transmission consists of a chain in combination with two or more sprockets or plate wheels. In some applications, a chain tensioner or tensioning wheel is added. A chain transmission is often used in a speed-reducing mode, but it can also be used in a speed increasing or one-to-one mode.
The transmission ratio of a chain is fairly limited, the speeds are usually not very high because lubrication is often difficult. Chain drives are widely used in agricultural machinery, transport systems, roller conveyors, etc.
